The steep canyon shadows awe and inspire everyone we take down this stretch of the Clark Fork River. Known by locals as Tarkio Canyon, the beauty will silence you.
Old Chinese-built footings from the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad still hold railroad tracks in place. Enormous, house-sized rocks and deep, cold channels swirl peacefully underneath the centuries of history slowly being buried by nature. These old mining towns no longer survive, but an old cable car still whispers the stories of many an old timer. You can’t see any of this fascinating antiquity from the road.
You’ll see deer, eagles, beaver, and the occasional elk, moose, or bear as your cares drift away. This trip will relax, entertain, and inspire young and old alike. This trip is the safest, driest option for those who want to enjoy the beauty of the river without the whitewater of the Alberton Gorge, Pangaea’s most popular trip on the Clark Fork River.
The Tarkio Canyon on the Clark Fork River doesn’t have the kind of whitewater like the Alberton Gorge, but it does have three milder rapids that you can blast through or avoid, depending on your mood. Your guide will get you wet and entertain the kids if you want to introduce them to what whitewater rafting is like.
