On this whitewater rafting adventure in Montana, you’ll find spectacular scenery and white water rapids. This is white water rafting at its best! Travel through time as you carve your way through the Alberton Gorge. Unparalleled beauty makes rafting the Clark Fork River whitewater an unmatched vacation. Perfect for first-time rafters, kids 6 and up, and seasoned whitewater enthusiasts!
After hundreds of TripAdvisor reviews, after decades of being in the business, after more than a thousand trips down the river, there’s a reason the Clark Fork River whitewater trip through the Alberton Gorge near Missoula, Montana, is one of the greatest day trips in North America.
The Clark Fork River’s Alberton Gorge has everything a river trip needs, warm water (especially in July and August, water temps remain around 65 to 70 degrees), family-friendly class 3 whitewater (the kind of whitewater that gets you wet, makes you laugh, leaves you thrilled and begging for more!), eye-popping scenery, easy scenic floating, plenty of time to swim, and constant water flows even in the driest of summers.
On Pangaea’s 3 to 5-hour white water adventure, depending on the water flows and the trip type you pick (lunch, dinner, or raft & blast trip), you’ll find spectacular scenery and white water rapids. The first several rapids are easy class 2 wave trains that get you warmed up for the adventure to come. You’ll carve your way through stunning rock formations and unparalleled beauty, as you float and paddle your way to two big, water-driven wave trains called Cliffside 1 and Cliffside 2. Continue reading below or check out our Alberton Gorge River Map for more details.
The river takes a big, bendy turn, setting you up for the most picturesque spot on the river, Roller Coaster rapid. Just after the rapid, we’ll make a quick stop to stretch your legs, snack on homemade trail mix and watermelon, and jump off Jump Rock (water levels permitting). Then, back in the boat for the last big rapid of the trip, Fang Rapid.
At Fang Rapid, Pangaea’s photographer will be taking rapid-fire, burst photography of you and your boat running the munchy, crunchy, frothy, crashy rapid at Fang. You’ll watch with delight back at Pangaea on the large screen of your boat, dashing through the whitewater!
After the action, you’ll kick back for another scenic stretch, play games, and hear the stories about the geology and history of the Clark Fork as you drift toward the purple cliffs beside Sandy Beach. But don’t look too long, the action picks back up with another big roller coaster wave train called Triple Bridges. Then a quick drop between Split Rock as you set up for the famous Tumbleweed Rapid that squeezes through the narrowest part of the Alberton Gorge, and one of our guests’ favorite rapids.
